Coffee and Its Variant
Nowadays coffee is not just a drink, it
becomes a lifestyle. Coffee has changed from a beverage that people drink when
they need to stay awake into a beverage that is loved by everyone. People don’t
just drink coffee to stay awake or breakfast companion. They also drink coffee
while hanging out with friends or a business meeting. It causes the rise of
various café worldwide. From cheap café to expensive one or small places to
instagramable one, you choose. People see coffee nowadays not only as a
beverage but also as trends to be followed. In addition, one kind of coffee
called green bean coffee gained its popularity as a good weight loss supplement
since early 2012. It strengthens the fact that coffee now transforms into a
lifestyle. It also enlightens us that there are many variants of coffee. We can
divide it by the coffee bean and by colour.
If we divide it according to the coffee beans,
there are 2 types of coffee beans worldwide: Arabica and robusta. Arabica is
the one that leads the market. There are about 70% Arabica spread all over the
world market for coffee bean. It has a smaller amount of caffeine than robusta.
it is famous for its scent that can be more like flowers or fruits. However,
its plant is more susceptible to illness than robusta especially if it grows at
lowland. No wonder it has a higher price than robusta. Robusta is a variant that
dominates another 27% of the coffee market. Robusta is cheaper to produce since it
stronger when facing illness threat. it is also easily to grow especially at a lower temperature. Robusta has higher level of caffeine approximately 1,7 – 4%
therefore it is bitter with low acid. The taste is so-so and tend to smell like
chocolate or nuts. it is commonly found in Indonesia.
Newest coffee trend add coloured coffee into
coffee variation such as white coffee and green coffee. They can be made from
Arabica or robusta coffee bean. The thing that makes them different is their
roasting process. White coffee is simply a half-roasting coffee. It is roasted
with lower temperature they use for regular coffee and half of its time. While
regular coffee is roasted at 450 – 480 degrees, white coffee is roasted at 325
degrees. This process make white coffee contains more caffeine than fully
roasted coffee. The caffeine in coffee is affected by how long the roasting
process takes place. The longer the roasting process, the less caffeine you can
get. So if you need something a bit stronger to stay awake, you better drink
coffee from white coffee bean rather than regular coffee. However, if you want
the strongest one, you should try green coffee.
Green coffee beans is basically unroasted
coffee bean. After the bean fermented and washed, the farmer just let it dried.
Due to its roasting process, green coffee raise popularity as weight loss green
coffee drinks. the reason is they have higher level of Chlorogenic acids.
Chlorogenic acid is a substance that helps the body to boost metabolism process and reduce excessive blood sugar so
that there will be more fat burned.
Chlorogenic acid will be destroyed more
than half at roasting temperature. Since green bean is not roasted, it has
higher chlorogenic acid than regular coffee. Moreover, This chemical substance
has valuable anti - oxidant which can
prevent your skin from getting damages and slow down aging process. Anti -
oxidant also fights free radicals substance which causes cancer. Another benefit of chlorogenic is the prevention
of health diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes and liver. Some study
that provide weight loss tips with green coffee said that it is better to made
it out from Arabica since it has higher chlorogenic acids about 140 mg/g, while
robusta just have about 65 mg/g.
Those are variants of coffee that popular at
the coffee market nowadays. Even though, it has many benefits, keep in mind to
not over consume it. Some studies say drinking coffee more than 6 cups a day
can cause “caffeinism”. They will show some anxiety or agitation if they don’t
drink enough coffee even more. After some time, the same amount of coffee will
not satisfy you anymore so that you will increase your portion just like while
